Accents are sexy. So speaking perfect English isn’t as sexy as speaking not so perfect Japanese to a Japanese person I would suppose.

I tried duolingo for 2 months to learn korean but it didn't made me fluent BUT it help me to gain more vocabs and read the alphabets a lot faster. Duolingo is just helped me to instantly recognize words. But text books and ebooks, watching variety shows, helped me a lot as well. Now, I can understand a little bit without subtitles. It not be fast but it's still a progress

Whether or not this video is clickbait the fact of the matter is that he followed all the correct steps to learn any language not just Japanese. Step 1. Get some text books and learn the alphabet( if your an English speaker learning French or Spanish or any other Latin based language you can skip this step). Step 2. Listen and watch people speak the language and you will slowly pick up words and meaning of words like you did when you were a baby with your native language Step 3. Practice speaking the language. Depending on the language your learning it could be a slow process or a fast one Japanese for example takes and English speaker about 2 to 3 years to learn how to speak Japanese fluently. If this video wasn't clear on that I hope this comment was.

Great tips. That ‘Japanese’ dictionary app you recommended is amazing. It has greatly sped up my study flow. I used romajidesu up until now.. it’s outdated and slow comparison. Have you guys made a video about what keyboard to use a smartphone? I use Romaji on iPhone right now, but it makes me wonder if I should switch to the full Japanese keyboard based on your recommendation to switch all your devices to Japanese. Dude... talk about a motivational video. I'm still very new, like Duolingo new and this was exactly what I needed to see. I haven't been passionate about really anything in a long time but learning a language has been surprisingly fun. I know my pronunciation is probably horrible but the fact that I can even say the words and sentences I do know roughly is such a good feeling. I've never been good at learning especially in school but now that I'm doing it on my own time willingly I've found a passion for that, so I don't think I'm gonna have a issue on the commitment side of learning the language. My biggest hurdle is gonna be when I hit the full immersion stage, I have really bad social anxiety and don't do good talking to people even in my own language so that's gonna be something that's gonna be more trying. Sitting in my room learning and watching anime will be no issue though.

Duolingo is a tool to build vocab and grammar. Fluency comes from regular conversations with people that speak the language

for example, if I watched this vid just a year ago, i would have not been able to understand anything due to your fluency in english despite the fact i really know english. But I bought a vr headset and spent all of my days with natives englishes and that can sound kind of weird but I usually talk to myself in english (Im french) so I gained much more fluency. Im prolly going to do this for Japanese. Anyways thanks for the video

Anki is fine for vocabulary, spelling, and obscure kanji. But it isn't super useful if you don't supplement it with grammar lessons, speaking with native speakers, immersion techniques, and other, more traditional language learning methods and tools. It's just a good flash card system /shrug. It isn't some godly new hack to learn a language. It is literally just a flash card app that does what you could do yourself but quickly and easily.

I don't know if this is true. I think that if you want to a learn a language so badly that you install Duolingo to learn it, you will expose yourself to the language in *every* other way possible without even knowing it. Good luck on your journey! 🙏🏻
